Hello! And – a beginning to the story of why I write what I write…

  • Posted on Sep 14, 2021

Hello there. If you have made it this far, you already know what it is that I write – the juicy stuff: erotica. Why erotica?  That is a good question.  Bear with me as I try to explain in this post and in upcoming ones as well.

First of all, welcome to my blog.  I hope you enjoy it.  Please feel free to provide feedback, sign up for my mailing list, and come back often!  I plan to use this as a place to give you some exclusive excerpts from my works in progress, update you on newly published works, and just generally chat with you, the wonderful reader.  But – how did I get here?

When I tell people I write, the inevitable question is – “what is it that you write?”  Depending on who it is, I will tell them. “I write erotica – for the most part.”  I am also working on a novel that I started almost twenty years ago. I know, that is one heck of a work in progress, right?  Life interrupted my dreams to be a writer.  Then, when I decided to dip my toes into the self-publishing world that Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing provides, erotica came to mind as I have been able to write a couple stories for Literotica.com with good results (they are no longer posted there, don’t go looking) – AND I can crank those short stories out quickly.  I’m still working on the novel – and I will start posting some teasers to it as I get this blog up and running – but it needs work.

But – back to the erotica.  I write it under a pseudonym, as I have children, a “day job”, and just some people in my life who I do not want to know I write it – at least not yet.  Am I ashamed of it?  Absolutely not.  There’s just a place and a time for everything, and not all audiences are receptive to the genre.  I get it.  I don’t take offense.

I have read many articles and forum posts that discount erotica as a genre – saying it is sinful and doesn’t have a place in a meaningful, long term relationship as it introduces third, fourth fifth, “parties” into the relationship even though they are fictional and purely for fantasy.  I have had a relationship come to a screeching halt because my writing was deemed “selling sex” by my significant other and viewed as a show-stopper sin.  FaceBook and Instagram will not let me promote works in that genre, and even Amazon’s KDP has promotion restrictions on the genre.  Those things gave me pause, made me really stop and think – why do I do this?

Then I got this comment on one of the FaceBook pages that I had posted links to my Amazon Author Page:  “My hubby and I purchase your stories to read to each other before going to bed, and they really spice up our evenings.”  That warmed my heart, to be completely honest, as that was exactly what I was going for.  I want to bring people closer to each other, to spice up things for whatever relationship they are in (or even if they are not in a relationship, provide a “release” if you will).  We have to stop making people think that a healthy sex life is a bad thing.  I want to show people that fantasy is ok, that it has a place in a relationship, that it can open a dialogue between two people and improve their sex lives – all of which reduces stress, strengthens the relationship, gets couples talking!

I’m not selling sex here.  I hope when you read my stories, you see that I try to develop rich characters that have purposes in their lives other than jumping each other’s bones, characters that you want to know more about.  As I continued to write these stories I even fell for a couple of my characters myself – Cassie and Roger Daley, a married couple completely head over heels in love with each other, but open to some sexy adventures as they travel around the world.  Because I liked them so much, I turned their story into a series  so I can further develop their characters (here’s a link to Book One: The Scottish Feast).  These characters become my friends, and I love to see where my imagination can take them!

I look forward to getting to know you, Dear Reader.  Stay tuned to this page for new releases, snippets from that twenty-year-old work in progress, and just general random thoughts from my crowded brain.  Feel free to email me to let me know what you would like to see here, or comment on this post.  Thank you for your wonderful support!
